Wishing PDS all the best in its strategic plan. To set the record straight on the town: The "enormous burden to taxpayers" was clear last fall but the supervisor still planned for a "yes" vote on Dec. 14. What changed since then was 6 months of steady, determined public opposition, making it clear that voters would put the $54m debt to a referendum and defeat it. THANK YOU to all who wrote, called, knocked doors, and spoke at meetings! We did it! Next up: making sure plan B, as it unfolds, is good for the police, residents, and taxpayers.

Details and links in this open letter: the town board put forward an extravagant debt plan in December; halted the vote after public outcry; promised a revised plan, but in April presented the exact same proposal again; then promised to appoint a transparent, accountable working group to consider other sites for a new police station. . . but no word yet.
